Inspiration

We thought it would be fun to allow students to learn about their campus locations in the form of playing Geoguesser and having different universities and collages to choose from. Being first year students, we know personally that remembering where each class is takes a week or two. If we learnt about areas or landmarks beforehand, this would make memorizing class locations faster.

What it does

It shows random locations across a variety of Canadian campuses and allows students to guess the location of an image shown and get points based on how close it is. It is a fun and challenging way for people memorize the layout of their school.

How we built it

We used various different tools and frameworks like Node.JS, React, Express.JS, PostgreSQL, and Prisma.

Challenges we ran into

We used the Claude Sonnet 4.0 model a little to help with React as we were pretty new to it, but it worked out in the end and turned into a fun project to build and learn at the same time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a functioning and replay-able game with working UI, music, and an animated menu background which are all on a hosted website.

What we learned

We learned how to use various frameworks and databases together and have them seamlessly interact with each other for a flawless user experience.

What's next for Campus Guessr

Adding a Leaderboard, more support for other UniBadges to rep, and maybe even 1 on 1 battles against other users!
