🤝 From Awkward Introductions to Instant Connections: Our Journey Building a Self-Intro Web App
🌟 What Inspired Us
During orientation, our team noticed a common challenge—many of us struggled with introducing ourselves in new groups. It often felt awkward or repetitive, and we realized this issue would likely persist throughout the semester in tutorials, faculty events, and group projects.
This inspired us to create a solution: a quick and easy way for students to introduce themselves with relevant information. Something simple, shareable, and personalized. That idea became the foundation of our project.
📚 What We Learned
Throughout the development process, we explored the capabilities of AI-powered website generation and saw firsthand how powerful these tools have become. We also gained insight into the evolving tech landscape, where business thinking is becoming just as important as technical execution. It’s not just about building—it’s about solving real problems and creating value.
🧱 How We Built It
We chose the T3 Stack to build our app, which includes:
- Next.js for the frontend
- tRPC for typesafe API communication
- Tailwind CSS for responsive styling
- Prisma for database management
The app allows users to generate a personalized self-introduction page by filling out a simple form. It then creates a clean, shareable profile with key details like name, course, interests, and fun facts—perfect for sharing in group chats or during icebreakers.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was ideation. With so many existing tools and platforms, it was difficult to find a unique angle that hadn’t already been explored. We spent time refining our concept to ensure it was both useful and distinctive.
Another challenge was scoping. We had to be disciplined about keeping the project lean and focused. It was tempting to add more features, but we learned that simplicity and clarity are key when solving a specific problem.
