I recently went through college admission process as Nepali international student. It was very complex and boring. I wanted to make it easier and more fun. Instead of spending 100s of hours on web, we wanted to make it easier and more efficient for students. So, we built this college application social media platform.

It connects people applying to similar kinds of colleges, makes it easier for students to search for university specific scholarships, gives you tips for getting into your dream college, and even videos that might help you in your application journey. Additionally, you can attend webinars and join college specific servers that might help you get info about college, its fit and life, and even help in college essays! All in all, it will help students from entire to end of the application process.

We built it with collaboration of 3 people. We used HTML, CSS and Javascript for Frontend. We used flask and python for backend. We fine tuned CHATGPT for AI university recommendation.

We actually ran into a lot of challenges in this process. Initially, only two people were working in this project, one from Nepal and one from USA. The time difference made it difficult to communicate and work. We fixed our schedules and attended daily meetings creating new insights and giving info about what we did. Also, as students we also had our own jobs and study schedules which made it difficult to give full time in this project, but we tried our best to give as much time to our project as possible. We kept forgetting our main goal, and made different kinds of sections which wasn't related to our central theme which we later removed. Also, we aren't very experienced programmers. We learned as we coded.

We're proud that we built such a large scale applications with just three people. I think it has over than 100,000 lines of code. We're proud how much effort we put into our work. We dedicated our weekends fully to this project, and the thought that it'll be useful to others are what we're most proud of.

We learned a lot of lessons in this project. We learned both technical and non-technical lessons. We are way better programmers than before. We are great at communication and sharing our ideas. We learned how important it is to manage to schedule to do things you love. I personally also learned that the best motivation to do something is the thought that it'll help others. We also learned we should always adhere to our goal and differentiate feasible with non-feasible ideas for the time.

We are planning to launch a startup with this platform. We want every university to be in this platform. We want to connect applicants with other fellow applicants as well as college specific and general counselors. We'll make it a vibrant community where everyone helps each other, and even make the stressful college application fun with friends!
