Inspiration

We found that our school has a multitude of clubs that all host very interesting events, such as movie showings, slime nights, and lettuce-eating competitions. However, all of us have struggled with findings as our school lacks a global calendar for upcoming events, resulting in many clubs doing advertising through flyers and social media word of mouth. This is what is driving our product.

What it does

It allows students to see and register for current and upcoming school events. Organizers would be able to publish events and see all who have registered.

How we built it

We built the app using Figma, an online prototype design tool. The demo is created through a series of app models, linked together so that interactions such as the home page and events lead to their respective pages.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was figuring out which of our ideas we wanted to pursue. While we had many ideas that would have been helpful to the community or environment, we wanted to create a product that would both have a large positive impact and also be something that we would use. In addition to that, it is the first hackathon for all of our group members so a lack of high-level technical skills and experience was a struggle for us in knowing how to approach this event.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our app demo as this is a first for many of us, learning how to use Figma as we developed our product.

What we learned

In our future hackathons, we will look to come into the event with an idea of what we want to develop already in mind. In addition, focusing more time on the product and less time at the workshops would've reduced our overall stress and crunch during the evening.

What's next for CampusConnect

The next steps in our program would be to start the development of an MVP. Following the success of this, we would start reaching out to both students and organizations within our college and looking to expand to other colleges within our region. The end goal of our group would be to have our product be implemented in colleges around the nation.
