Inspiration
College events are often managed through scattered WhatsApp groups, Google Forms, and manual attendance sheets. Students frequently miss important updates, while organizers struggle to track registrations, attendance, and feedback efficiently. We wanted to create a centralized platform that simplifies the entire event management process and improves communication between organizers and participants. This idea inspired us to build CampusCast.
What it does
CampusCast is a smart college event management platform that streamlines the complete event lifecycle.
Key features include:
- Event discovery and registration
- Real-time announcements and updates
- Role-based dashboards for students and organizers
- Attendance management
- Team registration support
- Event analytics and insights
- Feedback collection system
- Certificate management and distribution
The platform ensures that students never miss important events while helping organizers manage everything from a single dashboard.
How we built it
We developed CampusCast using modern frontend technologies:
- React.js for building reusable UI components
- TypeScript for type safety and maintainability
- Vite for fast development and optimized builds
- Tailwind CSS for responsive and modern UI design
- React Query for efficient data fetching and caching
- Wouter for lightweight routing
- Chart.js for analytics and visualization
- React Context API for authentication and state management
The application follows a component-based architecture, making it scalable and easy to maintain.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we faced during development were:
- Designing separate workflows for students and administrators
- Managing role-based access control throughout the application
- Creating a responsive UI that works across different screen sizes
- Organizing complex event-related data efficiently
- Building reusable components while maintaining consistency
- Integrating analytics visualizations in a meaningful way
These challenges helped us improve both our technical and problem-solving skills.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of:
- Building a complete event management workflow from registration to feedback
- Creating clean and intuitive dashboards for different user roles
- Implementing analytics for event performance tracking
- Designing a modern and responsive user interface
- Developing a scalable architecture that can easily integrate a backend in the future
- Delivering a functional prototype within the hackathon timeline
What we learned
Through this project, we learned:
- Advanced React development practices
- TypeScript integration in large-scale applications
- State management using Context API and React Query
- Component reusability and project structuring
- Role-based authentication concepts
- Data visualization using Chart.js
- Team collaboration and rapid product development during a hackathon
The project also improved our understanding of real-world event management challenges and user experience design.
What's next for CampusCast
Future improvements planned for CampusCast include:
- Real-time notifications using WebSockets
- QR-code based attendance tracking
- AI-powered event recommendations
- Calendar integration with Google Calendar and Outlook
- Automated certificate generation
- Push notifications for important announcements
- Event discussion forums and chat support
- Mobile application for Android and iOS
- Backend integration with cloud databases and authentication services
- Advanced analytics and predictive insights for organizers
Our vision is to make CampusCast a complete digital ecosystem for managing college events efficiently and engaging students more effectively. 🚀
