Inspiration

We were inspired by the restrictive car ownership rules at Cal Poly that hindered the ability for first years to explore the community.

What it does

It connects drivers to those looking to carpool and facilitates the discovery and communication of the process.

How we built it

The project was built using primarily Typescript with the React framework. The codebase was established with ChatGPT Codex and Claude. And the database is provided by Supabase and hosting done by Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

The integration of systems and directing the LLM was a major technical hurdle. But more than that, one unexpected challenge was actually the brainstorming process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of our brainstorming process and the teamwork we displayed with each member being responsible for one part of the system.

What we learned

Each of our members had different levels of experience, so what we learned also differed. For some it was the first time Git was used, for some it was an opportunity to learn database management. We also learned a lot of non-technical skills, such as learning how to brainstorm and plan out the development of an idea and learning how to pitch an idea to an audience.

What's next for CampusCarpool

We want to improve safety on the website by making drivers go through some sort of verification system, allowing written reviews on users, and making an in-house payment system.
