Inspiration

Our inspiration for this app is wellness apps such as Calm.

What it does

The Calm app helps students keep track of their mental health through college. Students can implement how they feel each day, and get reminders that encourage wellness. The app also provides information for college students to access mental health resources at their schools.

How we built it

We used Streamlit, the open-source Python libraries, and its many APIs to build the application's front end. For the backend, we created a database using Google Sheets, google API, and an Import for Google Sheets to store the users' mood data over a two-year period.

Challenges we ran into

Early into the hackathon, we ran into struggles with coming up with an idea that felt relevant to college students. Once we landed on the idea for CampusCalm, we faced challenges with using both HTML and CSS within the time constraints. After researching Streamlit, we found that we could do both front-end and back-end work with the library, leaving more time to focus on database management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

3/4 people on this team have never been to a hackathon, and we put our all into designing an app that implemented exciting elements, but also serves a great purpose.

What we learned

All of us learned many useful skills involving databases, time management, and working collaboratively on a programming task.

What's next for CampusCalm

We would love to implement a search feature that would allow the student to find their school's resources much easier than scrolling. A feature that allows for push notifications and reminders for students to log how their day is going is in the plan as well.
