Inspiration
Campus Sentinel was inspired by the need for safer, healthier campuses. Outbreaks and illnesses spread quickly in school and university settings, and administrators often lack real-time insight into student health. We wanted to create a tool that combines AI prediction, analytics, and visualization to help campuses respond proactively and protect students.
What it does
Campus Sentinel is a campus health monitoring and prediction platform. Users can:
- Enter symptoms to get AI-based illness predictions
- Access a health dashboard showing trends and analytics
- Visualize campus-wide health data with interactive heatmaps
- Track potential outbreaks and provide recommendations to improve safety
It turns raw health reports into actionable insights for students, teachers, and administrators.
How we built it
- Frontend: Next.js for a responsive, clean UI
- Backend / API: Node.js serverless functions handling symptom input and prediction requests
- AI: Integrated AI models to predict potential illnesses based on user-reported symptoms
- Data visualization: Interactive dashboards and heatmaps using chart libraries
- Deployment: Vercel for fast, reliable hosting
- Collaboration tools: GitHub for version control and task tracking
Challenges we ran into
- Designing an AI model accurate enough to provide useful predictions
- Creating intuitive dashboards that are informative without being overwhelming
- Ensuring the app works seamlessly across devices
- Handling mock campus data for testing while keeping it realistic
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fully functioning MVP within a tight timeline
- Created interactive heatmaps and dashboards that visualize campus health trends
- Integrated AI-driven symptom analysis for real-time predictions
- Produced a responsive and polished interface that users can easily navigate
What we learned
- How to integrate AI models into a live web application
- The importance of data visualization in conveying complex information
- Challenges of building an app for real-time user input and analysis
- The value of planning features based on user impact rather than just tech complexity
What's next for Campus Sentinel
- Expand the AI model with more data for more accurate predictions
- Add alerts and notifications for outbreaks or high-risk symptoms
- Integrate student health profiles and personalized recommendations
- Enable campus-wide reporting and admin controls for better decision-making
- Potentially expand beyond campuses to communities and public spaces
