Inspiration

The idea came from playing basketball. It is always a struggle to form a team to queue and play on campus. For context, sometimes in basketball, you would have to form team so you could verse other teams before actually getting to play. Usually , you can't just hop on individually. This app sort of alleviates that.

What it does

Its essentially a live feed of ongoing activities on campus hosted by students. Students who have free time can open the app and instantly discover activities they can join, whether it’s basketball, volleyball, study sessions, gym groups, lunch meetups, or casual hangouts.

The app also helps reduce the intimidation factor of approaching strangers. Seeing a group of people already doing something can feel unwelcoming, but if the activity is posted on Campus Pulse with open spots available, students know they are encouraged to join.

How we built it

We delegated the tasks and made use of languages we had familiarity with. This included js and react. The only thing we didn't really have experience with that we used was supabase.

Challenges we ran into

Biggest challenge was aligning the group on a single idea. The theme was very general , so there were a ton of excellent ideas that we could have implemented. Balancing ambition with what was realistically achievable within the time limit was difficult, and deciding on an idea that was both impactful and implementable took significant discussion.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment is turning a problem we as a group relate to a working MVP within a short timeframe.

What we learned

Going through this hackathon , we learned how important it was to be patient when it comes to generating ideas. Had we started coding within the first hour, we would have ended up with a project that we would have no conviction in .

What's next for Campus Pulse

In the future, we intent to add more use cases , in particular : some kind of ingestion mechanism, so that events on the app aren't just made by the registered users , but from sources as well. This increases the scope of the app in terms of the activities available.
