Inspiration

We were inspired by the difficulties students face in keeping track of campus placement opportunities, application deadlines, interview schedules, and offer letters. Placement coordinators also need to manage a large amount of student information and recruitment records. We wanted to develop a single platform that makes these activities easier to organize and helps students stay updated throughout their placement journey.

What it does

The Campus Placement and Offer Tracking Portal is a web application that connects students and Placement Coordinators through separate dashboards.

  • Allows coordinators to add student records and manage placement drives.
  • Checks student eligibility against predefined placement requirements.
  • Enables students to view suitable drives and submit applications.
  • Helps coordinators manage applications and interview schedules.
  • Tracks application progress and placement status.
  • Supports offer letter uploads and tracks whether letters are pending or received.
  • Can be enhanced with AI-based job recommendations and resume analysis to help students identify suitable opportunities.

How we built it

We developed the portal using React.js for the frontend, Node.js and Express.js for backend services, and MongoDB for storing student and placement information. REST APIs connect the frontend with the backend, while role-based authentication provides separate access to students and coordinators.

We organized the application into modules for student management, placement drives, eligibility checking, applications, interviews, placement tracking, and offer letters. This modular approach helps us develop, integrate, and test individual features more easily.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was organizing all placement activities into a single, connected workflow. We needed to manage student eligibility, avoid duplicate applications, maintain accurate application statuses, and organize offer letter records. Connecting the frontend, backend, and database also required careful testing and debugging. We addressed these challenges by dividing the project into smaller modules, planning the data structure, and testing functionality step by step.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Designed a centralized portal for campus placement management.
  • Organized the system into separate student and coordinator dashboards.
  • Developed modules for student records and placement drive management.
  • Planned an integrated workflow for eligibility, applications, interviews, and placement tracking.
  • Included offer letter management to help students access important placement documents.
  • Created a foundation for future AI-supported placement recommendations.

What we learned

We gained practical experience in full-stack web development, database design, REST API integration, authentication, and application testing. We also learned how to connect different modules, investigate technical errors, and divide responsibilities while working as a team. The project helped us understand how a software solution can address practical problems in college placement administration.

What's next for Campus Placement and Offer Tracking Portal

Our next goal is to improve the portal's functionality and make it more useful for students and coordinators. Planned enhancements include:

*AI-based placement recommendations: Suggest opportunities that match students' skills, academic details, and job requirements. *Resume analysis: Help students understand how their resumes align with specific roles. *Skill-gap identification: Suggest areas students could improve for their preferred job roles. *Placement analytics: Provide reports on applications, selections, and placement outcomes. *Automated notifications: Remind students about deadlines, interviews, and application updates. *Mobile support: Make placement information easier to access on mobile devices.

Our long-term goal is to make campus recruitment more organized, transparent, and accessible by managing the placement journey in one platform.
