Inspiration
We were really inspired by Snapchat, Eventbrite, GroupMe, and Instagram.
What it does
Campus Life is a social app that allows its users to see what activities that are occurring around campus.
How we built it
We started with a quick layout and brainstorm of how people could get off their phone and then branched off from there. We used Figma to build a foundation of how our UI/UX would look like while part of the team would simultaneously work on planning how our back end software would operate.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into was hosting the web app. We initially tried to host it on a Raspberry Pi but the Texas Tech University network was definitely a pain in our side. We had to scrap the idea with trying to host it in Raspberry Pi and decided to go with the cloud application Heroku to finally get our web app to run. Ludicrous amount of bugs with design such as screen proportions and size.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishments that we're proud of is the smooth user interface feature and the ability to pinpoint events for other users to see and register for. We are also proud in our messaging feature as well, it allows users to interact with one another, connect, and prepare with others for the event.
What we learned
We learned it was complex back end coding is and how essential it is to the program. One wrong change in the back end can completely crash the web app. We learned to utilize a database efficiently.
What's next for Campus Life
What's next for Campus Life is the scaling around different institutions and universities. We hope that campus life can be adopted in universities and in students lives, allowing them to connect, socialize, and make organizations that other students can view and attend.
