Inspiration

We started with a simple question: Why is it still difficult for students to find the right people, projects, and opportunities to collaborate on?

Students often have project ideas or want to join a team, but finding teammates with the right skills and interests can be difficult. At the same time, discovering relevant projects, research opportunities, and previous student work can require searching across different sources.

To better understand these challenges, we conducted a student survey. The insights highlighted four key needs:

  • Finding suitable teammates.
  • Forming teams around skills and interests.
  • Discovering relevant project and research opportunities.
  • Accessing previous projects and research in a more organized way.

We didn't start with AI. We started with students.

What It Does

Campus Hub is a student project collaboration platform that brings students, projects, research opportunities, previous work, and communication into one connected experience.

Students can:

  • Find a Team — select a project and discover potential teammates.
  • Explore Projects — discover projects based on skills and interests.
  • Research Opportunities — find relevant research and project opportunities.
  • Previous Projects & Research — explore previous work for inspiration and learning.
  • Post a Project — publish project ideas and define required skills and open roles.
  • Messages — connect and communicate with collaborators.

Campus AI

Campus AI is the intelligent layer within Campus Hub, designed to support students throughout their project journey.

It focuses on three main experiences:

AI Team & Skill Matching

Campus AI is designed to analyze project requirements, student skills, interests, and team needs to recommend teammates who are a strong fit for a project.

AI Project Recommendations

Campus AI is designed to analyze a student's profile and recommend projects that best match their skills and interests, while explaining why a project is relevant.

AI Project Generator

Students can provide a simple project idea, and Campus AI is designed to transform it into a structured proposal containing a project title, description, target team size, required skills, and open roles.

AI generates, while the student reviews, edits, and decides.

How We Built It

We designed Campus Hub around the student journey:

Discover → Match → Build → Connect → Collaborate

The current submission is an interactive prototype that demonstrates the intended Campus Hub experience and Campus AI workflows.

The prototype uses representative demo data to demonstrate the intended functionality, including project recommendations, teammate matching, match explanations, and AI-generated project proposals.

We focused on maintaining a consistent interface across the platform while integrating Campus AI naturally into existing student workflows rather than making it a separate AI dashboard.

Challenges We Ran Into

One of our main challenges was deciding how to use AI in a way that genuinely improves the student experience instead of adding AI simply for the sake of using it.

We addressed this by starting with the problems identified through our research and introducing AI where intelligent assistance could add meaningful value:

  • Personalization
  • Matching
  • Recommendations
  • Generation
  • Explainability

Another challenge was keeping the platform simple while supporting several connected experiences. We focused on making each feature part of one continuous student journey rather than creating separate disconnected tools.

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

We built a complete interactive prototype that demonstrates the core Campus Hub experience, from discovering projects and finding teammates to generating project proposals and connecting with collaborators.

We are especially proud of integrating Campus AI directly into the student workflow rather than making it a separate AI tool.

The prototype demonstrates:

  • AI-powered team matching workflows.
  • Personalized project recommendation workflows.
  • Explainable recommendation interfaces.
  • AI-powered project generation workflows.
  • A connected student collaboration experience.

What We Learned

We learned that a strong AI product does not have to be an AI-first product.

The most important part of Campus Hub is the student experience. AI becomes valuable when it helps students make better decisions, discover relevant opportunities, find stronger collaborators, and turn early ideas into structured projects.

Campus Hub is the platform. Campus AI is the intelligent layer.

What's Next for Campus Hub

The current prototype demonstrates the concept and core user experience. Our next steps are to:

  1. Test Campus Hub with more students and collect feedback.
  2. Implement and validate real AI-powered matching and recommendation models.
  3. Connect the platform with real university project and research opportunities.
  4. Explore a real student database and more personalized AI recommendations.
  5. Expand Campus Hub to support more universities and student communities.

Our goal is to make it easier for students to move from an idea → to the right team → to a real project.
