Inspiration
My inspiration for Campus Connect came from our college website's old user interface, which I found to be less intuitive for students. I envisioned a user-friendly resource-sharing platform that would assist students in accessing essential learning materials and schedules conveniently, particularly when they missed a class. The desire to improve the overall student experience drove me to create this project.
What it does
Campus Connect is a web application that offers users the ability to explore a low-poly 3D model of their college floor. It provides access to classroom-specific schedules and a repository of learning materials, including notes, books, timetables, and syllabi. Additionally, the platform facilitates communication among students through a commenting system, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
How I built it
I built Campus Connect using a combination of web development technologies, 3D modeling tools. The 3D model was created using [Blender and MySweetHome3D tool], and the web site was developed using HTML, CSS, SCSS and JavaScript mainly in GitHub Codespaces. I hosted this site on GitHub pages.
Challenges I ran into
During the development of Campus Connect, I encountered several challenges. Integrating the 3D model with the web application required overcoming technical hurdles (scaling issues for my 3d model, lighting issue). Additionally, ensuring the scalability of the platform while maintaining a user-friendly interface presented its own set of challenges. Addressing these issues demanded careful planning and problem-solving.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I take pride in creating Campus Connect as a resource that simplifies students' lives. Winning the first prize in our college's PBL competition for this project was a significant accomplishment, as it validated the value it brings to the student community. This recognition was a testament to the hard work and dedication I invested in the project.
What I learned
While working on Campus Connect, I acquired valuable insights into 3D modeling, web development, and project management. The experience allowed me to enhance my skills in designing user-friendly interfaces.
What's next for Campus Connect
For the future of Campus Connect, I plan to integrate our college's ID card scanning system into the platform. This integration will enable real-time tracking of the whereabouts of teachers and students within the college premises, enhancing campus security and resource utilization. Additionally, I aim to expand the platform by adding more 3D models of other classrooms and eventually creating a comprehensive model of our entire college building. These enhancements will further improve the student experience and make Campus Connect an indispensable resource for our college community.
