Inspiration

Inspired by home made meals, and the opportunity to bring nutritious yet filling foods to students who are learning to live on their own, and have varying amounts of time, skills, diet, ingredients, and money. Also, inspired by caterpillars, who like to eat, eat green foods, and get ready to evolve.

What it does

The main function of this website is to let users search recipes based on their preferences, needs, and limited resources. This is done by users inputting the ingredients around them into the search bar, along with the difficulty level they wish to choose, and dietary limitations, in the end producing various recipes to choose from. Other functions include a discussion board where peers can review and share their own recipe's, which can be accessed through signing up or logging in.

How we built it

Using our own knowledge, we built a homepage for our website in html and programmed the back-end/functions of the website in python. Originally, we were going to have an html site as a presentation of how our website would look while we demonstrate how it would it would function in python. Though later on, using some online assistance, we were able to convert most of the python code to html, making the website functional.

Challenges we ran into

Trying to combine both python and html into one successful interface, which led to a lot of struggle, due to html being a newer concept, and learning it on the spot in the deadline would be difficult and time consuming.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

UX/UI design is well incorporated to the message and theme we wanted to present to anyone who clicked on the website. Having finished the recipe finder, which took a lot of effort to code in python, before translating it over to html, leading to various index errors and type errors, however having a finished product feels satisfactory at the end of the day.

What we learned

Through this event, we were able to learn more about the html coding and new commands we can use in it. How to incorporate both python and html/css, how to design for the first time.

What's next for Campus Caterpillars

If we learned more about coding and different coding softwares/languages, we would create a mobile app that makes it easier for our user to use our website on the go. Not only that, we would add a few more features, including; nutritional facts for recipes/statistics on how healthy recipes are, use AI to find and include healthy recipes as well as help with filtering out recipes based on user's preferences, and a leaderboard/tracker to keep track of your friend's cookings and share/compete against one another.
