Inspiration

Educational institutions often face challenges in handling student grievances efficiently. Traditional complaint systems are frequently manual, lack transparency, and provide little visibility into the resolution process. Students may hesitate to report sensitive issues due to fear of exposure or uncertainty about whether their concerns will be addressed.

We wanted to create a platform that empowers students to voice their concerns safely while ensuring accountability, transparency, and timely resolution. This inspired us to build CampusConnect, a smart complaint tracking system that bridges the communication gap between students, administrators, and staff members.

What it does

CampusConnect is a full-stack web application that streamlines grievance management within educational institutions.

Students can submit complaints, upload supporting evidence, choose between regular or anonymous reporting, and track complaint progress in real time.

Administrators can review complaints, prioritize cases, assign them to the appropriate coordinators or staff members, and monitor the entire complaint lifecycle through a centralized dashboard.

Staff members can investigate assigned complaints, upload progress updates, document actions taken, and resolve issues efficiently.

The platform also includes email notifications, complaint history tracking, feedback collection, and real-time updates to keep all stakeholders informed.

Real-time communication is powered by Socket.io, secure authentication is handled using JWT, file uploads are managed through Multer, and automated email notifications are delivered using Nodemailer.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was implementing a secure role-based access control system that clearly separates student, administrator, and staff functionalities while maintaining privacy and data security.

Another challenge was creating a transparent complaint lifecycle where students could receive meaningful updates without compromising confidential information.

Integrating image uploads, email notifications, complaint assignment workflows, and real-time updates required careful coordination between frontend and backend components.

We also focused on designing an intuitive user experience that makes complaint reporting simple while ensuring administrators and staff have all the tools needed to manage cases effectively.
