Inspiration

As freshman at Georgia Tech, we each are enrolled in a wellness credit and a seminar class for computer science majors. Both of these classes have recently explored individual strengths through Clifton Strengths and how they can contribute to an effective team dynamic. Clifton Strengths provides some insight into the behaviors and needs of those with specific strengths. However, Clifton Strengths does not share applications of these strengths in the real world. In order to provide some real applications of the strengths, Campsite Conundrums was created. We hope Campsite Conundrums will give users greater confidence in themselves, and lowers the Imposter Syndrome that many students, especially at Georgia Tech, face.

What it does

Campsite Conundrums is an open-ended choose-your-own adventure game where a user first chooses their top five Clifton Strengths. These strengths can be found by taking the official Clifton Strengths Assessment through their official website. Once their strengths are chosen, the user's character begins a three day journey with a group who are trying to get from the start of camp to the end, which is a scenic mountain and lodge. The camp starts at a cottage, and then the user must deal with three different questions. The first question posed relates to crossing a river, the second relates to rationing food, and the third relates to choosing activities for the final day. At each question, the user is prompted with a scenario and must choose how to complete the task in the best way. Each question, the user will have five ways to answer, each correlating with one of their five strengths. The user wants to choose the best one because each choice results in the addition of points. The points categories are time wasted, fulfillment, likability by group, creativity, and health/wellbeing. Each category can earn up to 200 points, meaning each round a user can earn up to 1000 points. At the end of the game, the user wants to have effectively used their strengths to gain a large amount of points.

How we built it

We collaborated through GitHub, constructed the game in Unity, and coded in C#.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulty editing files and had merge conflicts within GitHub version management. This wasted a lot of time as actions had to be recompleted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of making the characters within blender and the dialogue we created for each of the Clifton Strengths.

What we learned

We learned that we have to stagger when editing files so they are able to save correctly. We also learned that creating the plot takes time and refinement.

What's next for Campsite Conundrums: A Strengths Adventure

Campsite Conundrums hopes to create a more personalized journey for every user in the future so they can better understand how to navigate applicable situations with their strengths and prove they understand the depth of them (Interdisciplinary strengths).
