Inspiration
COVID-19 has taken a toll on our social lives. As humans, we need interactions with others since we are social creatures. Campfire offers a solution to this problem by allowing users to engage in a live online discussion about anything that they are interested in. Users can exchange ideas, share experiences, tell stories and discuss what's on recently.
What it does
Campfire allows users to submit a topic or question, and join rooms dedicated for specific topics. Users can use video features to participate in the discussion.
How we built it
The website for Campfire is built using HTML, CSS, JS, and React. It is also integrated with Twilio for the chat and video features.
Challenges we ran into
Resizing the website to be compatible with different devices, and working together virtually.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first hackathon and some of our members have never participated in a coding project, so we are proud of our ability to create Campfire, a fun and functional website.
What we learned
Apart from the technical skills, we have learned about collaboration. During this process, we develop our soft skills in terms of teamwork and time management. We learnt about the best way to refine and present our idea. We also learnt about effective time management because of the time limit.
What's next for Campfire
We plan on adding features to Campfire, such as chat feature, hall of fame to display the most popular rooms, a campfire gif in each room that will lit brighter when more people join the particular room, and different categories (eg sports, music, food) so users can navigate the website more easily.
