Inspiration

I lived in Australia from 2023 to 2024, and during that time, I often wished there were one place where I could find the information that nobody had told me before I arrived.

There were many things I only learned after making mistakes, spending time searching across different websites, or asking people around me. I kept thinking that it would have been much easier if I had known this information in advance.

That experience became the starting point for CampCareer.

When vibe coding started becoming popular, I decided to turn that vague idea into a real project. I wanted to create a platform for people who are planning to study, work, travel, or migrate to Australia, as well as for those who are already living there and trying to make better career decisions.

At its core, the idea behind CampCareer is simple:

What it does

CampCareer is a career information platform focused on Australia.

The website helps users explore information about:

  • Jobs and career paths
  • University majors and study options
  • Schools and educational institutions
  • Career opportunities in Australia
  • Information for international students, working holiday makers, and future migrants

The goal is not only to list jobs. CampCareer is designed to help people understand how education, majors, careers, and life in Australia are connected.

I want users to be able to make more informed decisions before choosing a school, selecting a major, changing careers, or moving to Australia.

How we built it

I started building CampCareer before I knew about Codex.

At first, I used ChatGPT to generate small pieces of code. I copied the code manually, pasted it into VS Code, tested it, found errors, and repeated the same process again and again.

Because I had never built a website or software project before, even simple changes felt complicated. I did not fully understand how the codebase worked, and I often spent hours trying to fix small problems.

After discovering Codex, the development process completely changed for me.

Instead of copying and pasting every piece of code manually, I was able to work more directly with the project, understand the structure more clearly, and make changes across multiple files. It felt like discovering a completely new way of building software.

CampCareer was created through a combination of:

  • Vibe coding
  • ChatGPT
  • Codex
  • VS Code
  • Continuous experimentation
  • Many mistakes and repeated attempts

I am still learning how to improve the structure, design, content, and overall user experience.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was that I had no previous experience in software development.

I had never built a website, managed a codebase, designed a database, or planned a digital product before. I had to learn everything while building the project.

There were many moments when I felt overwhelmed. Sometimes I stopped working on the project completely. At one point, I even deleted the entire project because I felt that I could not continue.

Other challenges included:

  • Understanding unfamiliar code
  • Fixing errors without knowing their exact cause
  • Organizing large amounts of career and education information
  • Deciding which features were actually useful
  • Creating a clear and trustworthy user experience
  • Maintaining motivation while working alone
  • Rebuilding parts of the project after making mistakes

The project is still not perfect, and many challenges remain. However, each problem has taught me something new.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The accomplishment I am most proud of is that I built CampCareer by myself despite having no previous experience in software development.

The project started as a vague idea based on my own experience in Australia. Today, it has become a working website that contains information about Australian jobs, majors, and schools.

I am also proud that I returned to the project after giving up.

Deleting the project could have been the end of the story, but I decided to start again. Rebuilding CampCareer taught me that progress does not always happen in a straight line.

CampCareer is not yet a fully completed platform, but it is real, it is growing, and it represents something I created from nothing.

What we learned

Through this project, I learned that building a product is not only about writing code.

It is also about understanding users, organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and continuing even when the result is not perfect.

I learned that:

  • You do not need to know everything before starting
  • Small improvements can eventually create a real product
  • Failure is part of the development process
  • AI tools can help beginners turn ideas into working projects
  • Good information can have a meaningful impact on people's lives
  • Consistency matters more than perfection

Most importantly, I learned that I genuinely enjoy building digital products.

CampCareer made me realize that this is something I would like to continue doing professionally.

What's next for CampCareer

The next step is to improve the quality, reliability, and usefulness of the platform.

I plan to expand CampCareer with:

  • More detailed job and career information
  • Better comparisons between majors and career paths
  • More information about Australian schools and institutions
  • Improved search and filtering
  • Personalized career recommendations
  • Practical information for international students and migrants
  • A clearer and more accessible user experience
  • Regularly updated content

There are still many challenges ahead, and I cannot yet say that CampCareer is a complete or polished product.

However, I strongly believe that it can become a valuable resource for people who are planning to move to Australia, study in Australia, begin a working holiday, or build a career there.

My long-term goal is to make CampCareer a trusted platform that helps people avoid unnecessary mistakes and make better decisions about their future in Australia.
