Inspiration
The inspiration for the project is to allow users to find candidates that align with their own views and have the greatest impact in the elections
What it does
This model shows the 50 closest house of representative races in the 2022 midterm election. After the user selects issues important to them, the model will display candidates in the closest campaign race with similar ideologies.
How we built it
We built the app using pandas, streamlit and PIL for image processing.
Challenges we ran into
The data was very hard to scrape. We had to manually input the 50 closest races, but in the future we hope to have all candidates in the 2024 election.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were really proud to have made a proof of concept for the application. We were limited with data size, but the application is pretty and resourceful. We had a good team bonding experience that really made us come together.
What we learned
We learned that brainstorming should take longer than 20 minutes. We ended up wasting 5 hours, when we could have spent 1 hour manually inputting the data.
What's next for Campaign Equality
We would like to include every candidate for the house and senate, as well as web-scrape the ideologies of each candidate.
