Inspiration

We love hanging out in worlds that are pleasing to the eye as well as exhilarating competitive experiences. Our goal was to make a world that combined both of these by taking what was originally just a cool atmospheric hang out room and adding features and mechanics to become more engaging.

What it does

Camp Cropdust combines a thrilling scavenger hunt in a beautiful environment with the fun of a competitive social game by allowing antagonist players (stinkers) to send campers to the nurses office through powerful flatulence and to send scavenger hunt items to new locations to make things more difficult.

How we built it

Since we already had a good idea of what the environment should look like, Camp Cropdust was mostly about figuring out a gameplay loop that fit the scenery and building out more of it to tie everything together thematically.

Challenges we ran into

We had a more robust UI planned but ran into some issues with the platform that made us have to replace this with popups. We ran into challenges regarding working asynchronously and learned a lot overall about Horizon Worlds as a platform.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of the environment, sound design, and the funny toots that make this game unique and replayable. We built several components into the game that make for adding more features easier on us as developers to bring changes and improvements more quickly to the player.

What we learned

We learned more about the Teams API, visibility per player, the quirks of the desktop editor, and how to enjoy the process and not just the result.

What's next for Camp Cropdust

We're going to add a more intuitive UI for gameplay elements, add a few more collectibles, and implement events for holidays and community building.
