Inspiration

As a group of individuals who love exercising, we wanted to create a platform to help individuals maintain their calorie intake. We ourselves put a lot of importance on our own health and find it useful to find the number of calories we need to reach our fitness goals. We also wanted a way to change the way we decide on how to exercise which can make exercising more fun.

What it does

Caloria helps you maintain your calorie intake and exercise properly based on your own personal fitness goals. Equipped with a built-in calorie calculator, Caloria tells you the number of calories you need to consume in a day to maintain, lose, or gain weight. Caloria also generates random exercises for you to do based on the number of calories you would like to burn.

How we built it

The mobile application was built using Java and Android Studio.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we ran into was figuring out a suitable algorithm to generate random exercises for the user. What we found was that a lot of randomnesses led to extreme numbers and exercising routines, so we had to adjust the algorithm to remove extreme values.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of creating an application that we ourselves can use, but more importantly, help individuals achieve their fitness goals. We think that generating random exercises also makes exercising more interesting and suitable based on the number of calories one wants to burn.

What we learned

We learned a lot about fitness by doing research regarding the calorie calculator and we also improved our knowledge of Android development.

What's next for Caloria

We want to make Caloria more user-involved. In the future, we hope to have ways for users to add their own exercises. We also look to add ways to keep track of one's diets and also add more learning resources to inform individuals on fitness.
