Inspiration I wanted to create an app that has a simple yet intuitive design an does the right thing at the right moment. Too often mental health apps feel overwhelming with a lot going on, so I decided to design a simple platform that people might find helpful when they are experiencing poor mental health or anxiety attacks. My goal was to create a space that feels warm to stay going along with human-centered design.
What It does? -Tracks symptoms in with intuitive logging and provided stress level. -Guides users through personalized breathing exercises with visual animations
- Offers on-demand grounding techniques
- Provides emergency resource integration (crisis hotlines, local support)
- Features a simple chat assistant trained in crisis response
How I Built It Backend: Python/Flask for API endpoints and symptom analysis logic Frontend: HTML5/CSS3 with custom animations, JS for real-time interactions Design: Figma for prototyping, League Spartan font for readability
Development Process: -Prototyped calming color schemes and micro-interactions. -Trained chatbot using mental health guidelines
Challenges I Faced -Designing non-triggering UI (avoiding red colors/flashing elements)
- Adapting desktop-first design to mobile responsiveness
Accomplishments Im Proud Of Creating a zero-login-required tool that respects user privacy Built a chatbot that provides 7+ actionable responses per mental health category
What I Learned Mental health tools require empathy-first engineering Anxiety manifests differently across users so personalization is key
What’s Next for CalmSpace AI Refinement Community Features: Anonymous support circles with moderation Gamification: Reward system for consistent mental health practice
