Inspiration
Shift workers in manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation are the backbone of the economy, yet they face the highest risks of burnout and cognitive fatigue. Inspired by the MuuvWell mission, we realized that "Corporate Wellness" shouldn't be a chore or a document, it should be a high-performance tool. We wanted to build the "Flight Deck" for a worker's mind, focusing on Workforce Performance rather than just passive health.
What it does
CalmShift is a gamified mental resilience platform that keeps shift workers cognitively sharp and professionally connected. Neuro Games: Five-minute "priming" exercises that measure reaction time, focus, and pattern recognition to ensure employees are ready for their shift. Proactive Specialist Access: A direct line to Bowling Green doctors and coaches. Users can share their recent resilience scores and messages with one click to get the help they need before an injury or burnout occurs. REXP (Resilience XP) & Rewards: An engagement engine that turns wellness into a game. Unlocking real-world discounts at food joints and gym memberships (like Titan Fitness BG) creates a long-term habit-building loop. Smart Workflow: Tracking shifts and cognitive standing in one place to provide personalized recommendations.
How we built it
Frontend: React 18 and TypeScript for a robust, type-safe architecture. Design: Tailwind CSS with a "Glassmorphism" aesthetic to reduce cognitive load and provide a premium, modern feel. State & Security: Firebase Firestore for real-time leaderboards and specialist interactions, secured with strict attribute-based rules. Intelligence: Gemini 1.5 Pro to analyze game performance and provide insights to both the user and their specialists. Motion: Framer Motion for a fluid, "fun and addictive" UX that encourages daily check-ins.
Challenges we ran into
The "8–12 week drop-off" was our biggest hurdle. We had to move away from typical "step trackers" and focus on immediate gratification. Designing the XP system to feel rewarding without being distracting for a busy manufacturing or healthcare worker required careful balancing of the UI density.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully integrated a data-sharing bridge. When a user contacts a coach or doctor, they aren't just sending an email; they are sending a snapshot of their recent cognitive health. This turns a cold call into a data-driven telehealth consultation.
What we learned
We learned that the future of workforce performance is reciprocity. If an employee gives 5 minutes to a cognitive check, the platform must give back instantly, whether that's an AI insight, a leaderboard rank, or a discount on their next healthy meal.
What's next for CalmShift
Our next step is Predictive Intervention. By using the historical data of a worker's "Neuro Game" scores, we want to build an AI model that can suggest a "Muuv" break exactly when it detects a dip in cognitive reaction time, preventing workplace injuries before they happen.
