🌟 Inspiration

We wanted to create something simple yet meaningful — a space where anyone can pause, reflect, and feel heard. Mental health affects everyone, and sometimes all you need is a kind word. CalmMate is our way of bringing that kindness through technology.

💬 What it does

CalmMate is an AI-powered web app that lets users type how they feel and receive short, warm, and supportive responses. It automatically detects language (English or Bahasa Indonesia) and responds empathetically.

🛠 How we built it

We used Bolt.new to build CalmMate with:

  • A custom empathetic AI prompt
  • Multi-language logic
  • Minimalist UI and friendly UX for emotional safety

Tech Stack: React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Vite, ESLint, PostCSS, Lucide React

🚧 Challenges we ran into

  • Making the AI responses feel genuinely empathetic, not robotic
  • Designing prompts that work well in two languages
  • Keeping responses short yet emotionally impactful
  • Working around limitations in no-code platforms while maintaining quality

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating a working prototype in a short amount of time
  • Crafting a prompt that truly “feels human”
  • Building something that can emotionally support people in just a few words
  • Getting positive reactions from early testers who said it "felt like a friend"

📚 What we learned

  • Prompt engineering for emotional tone is very different from standard logic prompts
  • Simplicity in design helps people open up more easily
  • Even no-code platforms can produce deeply impactful tools with the right intention

🚀 What's next for CalmMate

  • Add mood tracking via emoji slider
  • Show check-in history in a /history page
  • Build a “calm space” area with music, breathing exercises, and affirmations
  • Add daily reminder system and affirmation rotation
  • Launch a mobile-optimized version for broader accessibility
  • Partner with mental health professionals to validate content and safety

"You are doing your best, and that is enough." – CalmMate 💛
