Calmify

Inspiration

Given the many things that happen in society, it is almost common now to feel overwhelmed and anxious. We, members of Ctrl+Alt+Elite, realized that there is a requirement for a safe space to calm down, vent out our feelings and thoughts, etc. Thus, we developed this website as a solution to these day-to-day problems that we faced.

What it does

This website serves as a steadfast companion for individuals navigating through challenging times, offering a safe space where they can freely express their emotions and release their pent-up feelings. By providing a safe and supportive environment, our website alleviates their burdens, allowing them to clear their minds and restore productivity. Engaging in the practice of affirmations, spoken aloud while looking at themselves on the screen, helps to rebuild their self-esteem. Meanwhile, soothing music and deep breathing assistance aid in relaxing their minds during moments of hyperactivity or aggression. Additionally, the Fidget Room offers a calming space to alleviate restlessness and anxiety. Together, this platform is a trusted companion, nurturing serenity and helping individuals find solace amidst anger and turmoil. Recognizing that these can arise unpredictably and differ from individual to individual, we aim to make it a responsive website to ensure accessibility over multiple devices whenever the need arises.

How we built it

We built this website using ReactJS for the front end and Firebase for the back end. We have also integrated Google Authentication for logging in to the website.

Challenges we ran into

We faced quite some issues with the compilation of the different features into one unit, however, after careful analysis of the code, we were able to overcome the same.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fidget Room, Affirmations, and Vent Space are features that we have never seen on the web. Thus, developing these were great milestones for us. Also, the interactive UI is something that we are proud of.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the working of ReactJS and various Web Development aspects such as CSS styling. We also realized the importance of teamwork and communication along with essential skills like critical thinking.

What's next for Calmify

We are trying to implement a mobile version of Calmify (the prototype homepage of which has been displayed in the demo), so as to make the site more accessible to our target audience.
