💡 What Inspired Me
When I watched and read Rebecca Louise's brief, I was immediately drawn to the problem: busy mums want financial independence but feel overwhelmed by complex advice and intimidated by investing. This resonated because:
- Real Impact: Financial literacy transforms lives, especially for busy parents
- Accessibility Gap: Most apps are too complex or too simplistic—there's a clear need for a bridge
- Community-Driven: Building for Rebecca's specific community means creating something truly tailored
- Empowerment: Helping mums achieve financial confidence improves their entire family's future
As someone who's built multiple apps with React, Capacitor, and RevenueCat, I saw an opportunity to leverage my experience to solve a real problem for a real community.
🛠️ How I Built It
Leveraging Existing Experience
With experience building cross-platform apps using React + Capacitor and implementing RevenueCat subscriptions, I focused on:
- Rapid MVP Development: Used proven patterns from previous apps to build quickly
- Clean Architecture: Applied lessons learned from past projects for maintainable code
- RevenueCat Integration: Leveraged existing knowledge to implement subscriptions efficiently
- Mobile-First Design: Created intuitive UI with Framer Motion animations for smooth UX
Build Process
Phase 1: Core features (Home, Tips, Swaps, Batch Cooking) with premium gating
Phase 2: RevenueCat integration with monthly/annual subscriptions
Phase 3: Polish (animations, responsive design, saved items functionality)
Phase 4: Platform-specific optimizations (iOS safe areas, Android package config)
🚧 Key Challenges
While leveraging my existing experience, I still encountered platform-specific challenges:
- Xcode 26.1 Compatibility: Fixed build issues with updated CocoaPods configuration and RevenueCat compatibility patches
- Platform-Specific Styling: Resolved iOS safe area insets and Android package name consistency
- Content Scrolling: Fine-tuned padding to ensure content sits properly above bottom navigation across all devices
- RevenueCat Configuration: Ensured proper setup across dashboard, App Store Connect, and code
These challenges reinforced the importance of thorough testing on both platforms and careful attention to platform-specific details.
