Self-harm is harming yourself on purpose. Such as by scratching, cutting, overdosing on medication, biting, or burning. It isn’t a mental illness, but it is often linked to mental distress. People self-harm because they find it difficult to cope with their moods or how they feel. Everyone has their own reasons for self-harming. Being overwhelmed by feelings is a common reason that people self-harm. Often these will be feelings such as sadness, guilt, and hopelessness.

One analysis of self-injury across more than 40 countries found that:

  • About 17% of all people will self-harm during their lifetime
  • The average age of the first incident of self-harm is 13
  • 45% of people use cutting as their method of self-injury
  • About 50% of people seek help for their self-harm but only from friends instead of professionals

Not only is self-harm prevalent, but rates are increasing. According to emergency room trends, there’s been a 50% increase in reported self-injury among young females since 2009.

What it does

The app helps people in subsiding their urge to self-harm. this is down by suggesting videos, music, and content distract themselves. The app after each activity asks the user if the urge has subsided or not and if not then it recommends one more activity.

How we built it

The app was made using flutter, tensorflow.js, pub.dev packages.
