Inspiration
Given recent events, several ways to be more active allies have manifested. One of the clearest is to use inclusive terminology to accommodate members of all communities no matter their race, gender, or ability. We wanted to create an application that provides tangible ways to improve inclusivity by providing benchmarks for performance and ways to improve.
What it does
Callout takes audio input and uses the Google Cloud Natural Language API to analyze its sentiment and syntax. It will notice if certain terms are in a dictionary of exclusive language, understand if adjectives are phrased in an exclusive way (i.e. "homeless person" rather than "person experiencing homelessness") and check the overall sentiment for negativity.
How we built it
We used the Google Cloud Natural Language API to analyze the sentiment and syntax of language and Python libraries to accept audio input.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into trouble connecting audio input to our backend code. However, our app fully functions and we hope to refine it for various use cases.
