Inspiration

Businesses miss calls every day, and a missed call often means a missed customer. We wanted to solve this by building a system that doesn't just record missed calls, but actually understands what the customer needs and takes the next action automatically. That led us to build CallMissed — an AI-native communication layer for businesses.

What it does

CallMissed connects voice calls, WhatsApp, SMS, email, and web chat through a single platform. When a customer contacts a business, AI can understand the conversation, access customer context, answer questions, collect information, schedule appointments, send payment links, or escalate the conversation to a human when needed.

The goal is simple: no customer should be lost just because a business couldn't answer the phone.

How we built it

We built CallMissed as a combination of AI agents, communication APIs, and business automation tools. The platform uses speech-to-text, text-to-speech, LLMs, and channel-specific APIs to handle conversations across different communication channels.

We built the backend around APIs so businesses can integrate CallMissed into their existing systems, while the no-code layer makes it possible to configure agents and workflows without building everything from scratch.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was not getting an AI model to respond — it was making the entire system work reliably in real-world conversations.

We had to deal with interruptions, missed calls, different communication channels, webhooks, authentication, call recordings, transcripts, context management, and making sure actions were not accidentally triggered twice.

We also spent a lot of time figuring out how to make AI agents interact with business systems instead of simply having conversations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we moved beyond building just another AI chatbot. CallMissed can understand a customer's intent, maintain context, route the conversation to the right specialist, use tools, and take real actions.

We've built working voice and communication workflows and a foundation that can support multiple channels through one unified system.

Most importantly, we have something that we can actually put in the hands of businesses and continue improving from real customer interactions.

What we learned

We learned that building AI products is less about choosing the "best" model and more about building the system around the model.

Reliability, context, tool calling, fallbacks, human escalation, and good product design matter just as much as the intelligence of the model.

We also learned that businesses don't really want AI for the sake of AI — they want fewer missed opportunities and better customer experiences.

What's next for CallMissed

Our next focus is making CallMissed more autonomous and easier for businesses to deploy.

We're working toward smarter AI agents that can handle complete customer workflows — from the first call or message all the way to booking, payment, follow-up, and CRM updates.

Ultimately, we want CallMissed to become the AI communication layer for businesses, where every customer conversation can be understood, remembered, and acted on automatically.
