Inspiration
As a first generation low income student myself, a problem that occurs often in my community is the lack of resources to be able to find mentorship and network. So, I thought why not make a website?
What it does
CALL UP! allows students to sign up and find relevant mentors from just a click. Time is money. And CALL UP! organizes and makes matches between mentors and mentees, allowing students to find high profile mentors quickly and easily.
How we built it
I made the demo by using basic HTML for the structure of the webpage, CSS for the background colours, font styles, and the visual of the webpage, and Java Script for the interactivity.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge I ran into was probably the time management. I was running on a tight timeline because of my busy personal life. I think I could plan it better next time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m very proud of myself for pulling through. This was my first ever hackathon. And I wasn’t expecting much from this. I wasn’t even sure if I would even finish this project. So I’m very grateful for Empower and everyone who put endless effort in for this Hackathon.
What we learned
I learned a lot about the struggles of students in not just my community, but students all over the world. I realized that I’m not the only student out there that is struggling.
What's next for CALL UP!
I really wish that this website can be developed into more than just a hackathon idea. I think it will represents a promising solution to an important problem. If we can actually launch CALL UP! then, this platform can become an easy and reliable resource for students striving to achieve their educational and career goals.
