Inspiration
We didn't know what to make at first so we sought guidance from our parents which made us decide to make an app that's related to health and can help our community. After that we managed to contact an IT at a hospital and he helped us decide that we will make an app to help people with memory difficulties. To understand what our target audience needs we asked our elderly and their caretakers on what difficulties they usually have and if they have any suggestions. Thanks to them we got inspiration.
What it does
This app is to help people with memory difficulties. It is equipped with a ton of features to help those with memory difficulties progress through lif easier. Our app can be used even by kids with memory difficulties since it can also be used like a game because of our minigame and tower section. The minigames help stimulate your brain and help you remember things in a fun and exciting way. You can upgrade the tower using the points you collected in minigame so you can show off how high your tower is. We have an AI chatbot that you can ask if you ever have any questions with voice recognition so that you dont have to type. Old people usually have motoric difficulties so this app implements large easy to see buttons. We have alerts for your daily schedule and for important dates and a map so you dont get lost.
How we built it
Me and Vino divided tasks and worked simuntaneously in the main dart code. We could work more efficiently this way. He was in charge of the design and making the code neater while i made the base code. Jayson worked seperately to make the incredible graphics of vinoscape. then we embedded it into our app.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't always agree with each other and often argued. We also didn't have enough time because of the never-ending tests and homework. Because we weren't incredible at flutter we often encountered errors like the gray and red screen of death and syntax errors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we managed to complete a full app in just less than a month. We managed to implement all the features we wanted to add and we're satisfied with our hard work results. Even in a tight schedule, we still can finish making the app we had in our mind.
What we learned
From the development and programming process of this app, we learned to try understand each other and not get too harsh. Sometimes we get into fights because of two ideas we had that contradict with each other, or maybe because someone has been too busy with their life and couldn't finish their part in time. So for the next group projects that we're going to have, we'll try to understand each other's ideas, why they chose that idea, and the problems they're facing in their lives.
What's next for Caligo
We plan to make the AI answer more faster. We also plan to make our app more accessible, for example by adding a language option for those who don't speak English. We plan to let this connect to a caregiver app so the caregiver can monitor their location and tell if there is an emergency.
