Inspiration
We were inspired by Inside Out, using the idea of visualizing emotions as characters to better help our users understand and manage their own emotional state.
What it does
Insight Out is an AR glasses system that translates brainwave activity into visible emotional thought patterns, allowing users to see, understand, and manage their thoughts in real time.
The system processes neural signals and categorizes them into emotional states such as anxiety, a joy, anger, or sadness, displaying them through subtle AR visualizations.
How we built it
Insight Out is designed around three conceptual layers.
The Cognitive Engine captures neural signals using wearable sensors such as EEG or fNIRS and translates them into thought fragments.
The Somatic Engine detects biometric signals like heart rate and skin conductance to identify emotional states.
The Spatial Frontend visualizes this data through the AR interface, showing thoughts and emotions in real time.
We built the interface prototype using Figma and After Effects.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was using Figma Make, as it was our first time working with the software. Learning how to structure prompts and generate the interfaces took some experimentation.
We also faced difficulties creating the 3D model of the glasses for our concept.
To overcome these challenges, we referred back to the workshop slides, which helped us improve our prompting techniques and better guide the design process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a concept our team relates to, inspired by the challenge of recognizing and managing our thoughts in stressful moments. We hope Insight Out inspires future technologies that help people better visualize and process their thoughts and emotions.
We’re also proud of pushing through the challenge of a large and competitive design hackathon. Despite the pressure and limited time, our team stayed motivated and created something fun, meaningful, and enjoyable for all of us.
What we learned
We learned how to use Figma Make and improve our prompting techniques to generate and refine our interface designs. We also explored how human perception goes beyond the traditional five senses, inspiring us to think about new ways technology could help visualize and understand internal experiences like thoughts and emotions.
What's next for Insight Out
Future directions include improving emotional detection, refining the AR interface, and exploring therapeutic or wellness applications.
