Inspiration
Our project's goal is to help users eat the food they need in order to be healthy and well-nourished. We were inspired by the common struggle of "What should we eat for dinner", and the difficulty that can be associated with using the food on hand to make healthy and interesting meals.
What it does
Our app tracks calories burned with accelerometer data, lets the user set goals based on this, and suggests meals well-suited a user's movement patterns for optimal macronutrient replenishment.
How we built it
We used react native to build our app.
Challenges we ran into
It can be challenging getting constant accelerometer data, and segmenting sessions in a way that makes logical sense.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of our ability to suggest healthy and interesting meals based the user's activity and food availible on-hand.
What we learned
We learned a lot about running background processes and storing data locally. We need this to be running constantly in order for it to be accurate.
What's next for CalCalc
Ideally we could implement a photo option, with which a user could submit a picture of what's in their fridge instead of having to rattle off availible ingredients. Furthermore with machine learning-powered activity recognition we could likely make our calorie calculation even more accurate.
