Inspiration
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses in America and the most common cause of suicide, but many people with depression do not realize they have it or never tell anyone. As a result, only around 10% of depressed Americans get the minimum medical treatment they need.
What it does
The app allows people to easily see if others or themselves have been displaying negative emotions in their Tweets. Once they input a Twitter handle or a block of custom text, the program shows prevalent emotions. This allows people to easily diagnose themselves or their loved ones for mental illnesses.
How we built it
We used the Twitter search API and IBM Watson's tone analyzer API.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating the python scripts
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Drinking 12 cans of Redbull in one sitting.
What we learned
We learned to work with Flask and the APIs.
What's next for Cafe Depresso
We want to expand it to other social media platforms, and maybe even alert hospitals if a patient has severe symptoms.
