Inspiration

We took the scenario that MDL Man is currently in--trapped in an isolated room with limited movement of his hands. We chose to add an addition/ accessory to his costume and gave him a classical superhero symbol belt, but with a twist.

What it does

We were inspired by engineer's toolboxes and created a hollow space between the back and front face where MDL Man can store helpful tools such as lock picks, wrench, flashlight and etc, and had the sliding component of our box include a blade to help him cut the rope of his wrists for greater mobility.

How we built it

We each began brainstorming potential designs and elements we wanted included in our device, and ultimately combined a variety of things to create our polished finished product. While deciding how to make the box open/ how to conceal the items, we opted for a slider rather than a hinge do to its easy accessibility, and followed how a drawer of a dresser behaves. Additionally, to store his tools in an organized matter, we took inspiration from chemical test tube holders, and created a rack to store each required tool.

Challenges we ran into

One thing we did face a challenge with was making sure CADblock would be suitably covert and appear in place among the wardrobe of MDL Man; it couldn't be overly big and obnoxious or else it would attract attention and MDL Man would have been stripped of his tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are happy and content with our idea, and the prototype we have created currently. The box has proved to be an efficient way of storing objects in an easy to access and covert manner without interfering with MDLman's escape.

What we learned

We learned the importance is sizing and scaling in real life. Initially, we had created one of the sides of this belt buckle as 170mm, but after printing, we realized that this would hinder MDL Man's movement, and attract attention from CAD Man, so we adjusted our scaling accordingly for it to be better work as a superhero belt.

What's next for CADblock

In our next steps, we might consider adding clip of sorts to ensure the slider doesn't escape from the "free" end After discussing ways to ensure that the slider stays closed unless MDL Man needs it, we would add the snappable button, such as the ones on purses and bags.
