CAD-to-Etsy™ is an add-in that extends the functionality of Autodesk® Fusion 360™ enabling users to connect to Etsy e-commerce platform, create, fill listing items and attach a rendered model from Fusion 360. The add-in also enables to connect to Autodesk Forge platform and attach a model file from Forge storage to an Etsy listing of digital type.

Inspiration

The innovation to connect CAD software and e-commerce platform.

What it does

• Connects to e-commerce platforms with Autodesk user account information. • Creates photo-realistic visualization of a digital mock-up. • Stores common item information in data cards according to the e-commerce platform data structure. • Creates and auto-fills listing items within e-commerce platform: common information and photos. • Connects to Forge platform • Opens a model from Forge storage and attaches it to Etsy listing of digital type.

How we built it

Deep researching of all Fusion 360 and Forge APIs possibilities was the first point in our “to-do-list”. After researching and discussions, we successfully implemented all necessary functionality using C# WPF. .NET assembly is called from Python to connect it to Autodesk Fusion 360 and uses Fusion API

Challenges we ran into

Development and implementation of our ideas in new environment, such as extremely modern API providing various opportunities, became the challenge for our team. On the other hand, Forge functionality not always worked as we expected due to the newness of APIs. Also it was challenging to combine the code written in more than one language, to use several APIs in one project. Despite all the issues we did it!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing the application working with APIs provided by several companies, and made for resolving different purposes, such as e-commerce, CAD systems model derivative, remote data management, etc.

What we learned

Exciting experience of working with Forge and Etsy platform, with different languages and APIs in one project.
