Inspiration
Finding your next vacation destination can be a very long and tedious process. However a majority of people see pictures of friends and colleagues on vacation on social networks. We wanted to improve on the way we choose the destination of our next vacation.
What it does
As a user, you can just upload pictures of destinations you like. This could be pictures of your friends on Facebook or Instagram or any other picture. After that, we analyze the photos and use the results (e.g. place, beach, city, ... ). Finally we show the user the pictures that were processed, along with suggestions for hotels in that area. That way, the user encounters content that is already known to him, which creates a familiar environment, as he might recognize some of the picture and be reminded of vacations of his friends and colleagues.
How we built it
Hosting: Microsoft Azure Image Analysis: Google Cloud Vision API Backend: Node.JS Frontend: React
Challenges we ran into
- Facebook’s API does not allow us to access recently liked pictures of the user
- Instagram’s developer service needs to review the code
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
Images can be uploaded to the server and are analyzed reliably.
What we learned
What’s next for C24 ImageRecognizer
The next step would be to integrate APIs from social networks like Instagram to simplify the process even more, so that the user does not need to upload the photos manually but take the user’s recently liked pictures from the social network instead.
