Inspiration
As quoted by Nobel Prize Winning Biologist Joshua Lederberg, “The single biggest threat to man's continued dominance on this planet is the virus. There is no bomb, no poison, no plan of attack with the potential to do as much damage.” The COVID outbreak has changed the lives of all the people on earth and we have to adapt to many new concepts, such as checking in to every place we visit. The problem with the existing check-in systems is that they usually requires user to provide contact details manually and each family member may have to be checked in separately. We also can never be sure about how the data we have provided to these third-party services will be handled and stored. So we came up with this idea of an application that we hope will address these issues by streamlining the check-in process for customers, and utilising the data for merchants and government to monitor the compliance with social distancing rules.
What it does
This government app allows people to register themselves and their dependents on an account. At the point of check-in, user can search for the business and declare the people who are checking in alongside them. Merchant gets information on the allowed capacity and customer count on the merchant portal based on the check in data. Government on the other hand can monitor and take actions based on density of the crowd in a locality.
How we built it
We built the Check-In Consolidator app by considering 3 main user groups which can operate the application via devices like mobile and tablets. There are 3 separate portals that we have created for the user groups.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a lot of time in modifying the OOTB Pega portals to make the UI more intuitive and mobile responsive, and got rid of components that are not required for our use case.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of building this app in very short time and with limited resources.
What we learned
We have learned a lot on how to customise the skin rule in order to achieve the desired user interface look and feel.
What's next for C.R.E.W - Check-in Consolidator
There are many extended features which did not make it into this initial release, such as the option to check in to a location using QR code scan as an alternative if location services is not available, the integration of table booking services to forecast the capacity of the businesses, and also a live map view on the government portal to provide a heatmap based on the check-in data. These features are candidates for the next release that we are looking to implement.
