Inspiration
Many organizations face rising electricity bills, millions of fines, and accusations of greenwashing. We were inspired by the urgent need for companies to prove their sustainability practices under Malaysia’s Energy Efficiency Conservation Act (EECA 2024, Act 861). Hence, we wanted to build a solution that makes energy management transparent, actionable, and audit‑ready.
What it does
C.OVER is a unified energy management system that connects directly to TNB accounts, providing real‑time visibility into electricity consumption and energy source generation. It allows users to set thresholds, track usage patterns across daily, weekly, and monthly periods, generate sustainability reports, and leverage AI insights to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
How we built it
- Frontend: React.js + Tailwind CSS for a responsive dashboard.
- API Integration: Google Gemini API (2.5 Flash) to translate raw telemetry into optimization advice.
- Data Strategy: A custom emulator (
tnbCloudRegistry.js) to simulate utility API responses without waiting for legal API approvals. - Reporting: Custom CSS
@media printdirectives for seamless, multi‑page audit report generation.
Challenges we ran into
- Accessing real utility APIs required lengthy approvals, so we had to emulate data.
- Translating complex telemetry into human‑readable insights demanded careful AI prompt engineering.
- Ensuring compliance with EECA 2024 thresholds pushed us to design features like alerts and audit‑ready reporting.
- Coordinating rapid prototyping under hackathon deadlines while maintaining robust code quality was tough.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a working prototype that integrates AI with real‑time energy telemetry.
- Designed a dashboard that is simple, powerful, and compliance‑ready.
- Created a print‑optimized reporting system that produces professional audit reports instantly.
- Collaborated effectively as a team to deliver a perfect solution within time constrain.
What we learned
- The importance of define the problem statement and objectives.
- How compliance frameworks directly shape technical requirements.
- The importance of user‑centric design in sustainability tools.
- Practical experience in integrating AI into real‑time data systems.
- Teamwork and time management in hackathon environments.
What's next for C.OVER
- Integrating with official TNB APIs once approvals are granted.
- Expanding features to include predictive analytics for peak demand management.
- Adding carbon footprint calculators and sustainability benchmarking.
- Scaling the system for enterprise deployment across multiple facilities.
