Inspiration

After learning about ConocoPhillips' views, we were inspired to come up with informative visual models to help find swift solutions to crude oil production hardships.

What it does

COPAT implements visualizations to help oil companies efficiently find and understand data to maximize crude oil production in the United States.

How we built it

To organize the data, we carefully set it up on excel spreadsheets. We utilized Pandas (Python) to calculate and ensure the data provided by Excel was accurate. The most significant part of the project was providing the visuals for the data, such as maps, bar, and line graphs. To create the interactive charts, we used Tableau. Lastly, to incorporate all of our ideas into one, we created a website using HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS under Visual Studio Code to include our Interactive Maps, Powerpoint, additional analysis, and videos.

Challenges we ran into

Real-world data can be messy, and the data we found required a fair amount of cleaning to suit our purposes. We also worked with different technologies and had to find a way to share information across platforms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In 24 hours, we downloaded data we had never seen before, cleaned it, and analyzed it. We also managed to create some nice visualizations.

What we learned

While oil production in Texas dominates oil production in the US, a surprising number of states contribute to the national totals.

What's next for C O P A T

We hope to be able to aid the production of cruel oil for gas companies by providing efficient and simple visualizations. Different versions of COPAT may arise to incorporate additional data and focus on specific company needs.
