Inspiration
The Mason 360 app is an app at GMU that is suppose to keep you updated on events and keep you updated on what is happening at GMU. Although there is a problem, it's terrible and disliked by many students.
What it does
Our plan is to make a better version of Mason 360 so people can easily find events suited to them and have an interactive map to be able to see things going on around campus.
How we built it
We used react front end with a python flask back end. The flask uses open ai and webscrappers to be able to access information about the events at George Mason.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was implenting the AI bot into the react. We couldn't get the react to call the ai properly so it wound up not working as expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishments we are proud of is the interactive map part. While small, we were able to set and show boundaries that only surrounded GMU. This is something that could easily be replicated for different schools, setting different boundaries. We were also able to set markers across the map that gave the title of different dining halls around campus, with their hours of opperations appearing on the right side, when you clicked the "Map" button.
What we learned
We learned how to use React to create a website, how to use python to make openai and webscrappers, how databases work in the world of cs.
What's next for C-Map
This website has a lot of room for growth, we will incorperate more fetures into our map detaling and showing live events and event locations. Showing where clubs are and allowing gmu students to chat amongst each other.
