Inspiration

My Dad - He works in Clean energy and he helped me come up with the idea. At Home Emissions Media - Just seeing the news and what at home emissions and un-clean energy is doing to our world really inspired me to make this Robotics - I coach an FLL Team and I'm on an FLL Team and I used the same sensors and knowledge from there Websites & Apps - I've always been inspired by how websites and app's work - so I made one Technology & How Things Work - I've always been interested and inspired by how different things in technology work, like outlets, websites, computers, bluetooth, etc.

What it does

App - This app will collect all of your data(zip code and number of people in your house), and all of the sensor's data(A movement sensor for shower length, a color sensor for "lights-on" length, a decibel sensor for amount of laundry loads, an electricity sensor for amount of electricity you use in your outlets, and a temperature sensor to see how long your HVAC is on for), and it will make a chart of all this data(weekly), and it will use our calculated algorithms in our calculator to match you up against other people in your area with the same amount of people in your house(I.E. you use your lights for 3 hours 5 minutes more then other people in your area with 5 people in their house). And based on this data, it will load up our website in your browser and give you personalized data with companies for how you can improve these statistics/records.

How we built it

FLL - I coach an FLL team and I'm on an FLL team and I used the same sensors Webflow - To design my website Backendless - To design my app after MIT App Builder failed Repl(Posting my Codepen) - Posting my codeine so I could use it on Backendless and webflow Codepen(HTML, CSS, JS) - To code front-end HTML, CSS, and JS VS Code(Python and Java) - To code back-end Python and Java

Challenges we ran into

MIT App Inventor - I spent 5.5 hours coding up a whole thing on MIT App Inventor, just to learn that it wouldn't run my Bluetooth connection, and the other one was too pricy, so I had to scrap all of it and find a new program, which luckily I found Backendless, and I had to code it all from scratch while spending the whole day on it and an all nighter Bluetooth - I ran into challenges my bluetooth code not working, and my applications not picking up the bluetooth signals Sensors - I ran into challenges with my sensors not transmitting the data to my hub, and my hub not transmitting my data to my computer/ app and code Display - I ran into challenges on how to display my data from the sensors Calculations - Unknown States - I ran into challenges of different state governments(I.E. CT(the state that I live in)) that didn't post too many things that ended up in me taking hours of research to find this data

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Product - Really just being able to accomplish this while overcoming all of our challenges and creating this great project! Effect - We are proud of the effect that this could have on the world with, what would be, the new way to reduce a lot of at home admissions and increase clean energy Learning - We are very proud of how much we have learned First Hackathon - We are very proud of how good of a project we made as this is my first hackathon

What we learned

HTML, CSS, JS, Java, Python - I learned from scratch HTML, CSS, JS, and built on my very tiny knowledge of Java, and expanded my horizons on Python Backendles/Webflow - I learned about different logic and about the programs of Backendless and webflow for designing apps and websites Bluetooth - I learned about how Bluetooth works in the real world, in code, and in signals Sensors - I learned about how I could connect sensors into my code Databases - I learned about how to store things in databases Transmitters - I learned about how to transmit things(like the sensors around my house) to my computer and into my app code Voltage(How an outlet works and what Watts are) - I learned about how outlets work and how watts are measured State by state averages and effects on at home emissions - I learned about the different state averages and the effect that they have on our world

What's next for Byte Masters Sustainability Home Emissions Calculator

Hopefully this can become a product and reduce at home admissions and help increase the spread of clean energy. The goal is for this to become a common product, maybe even for free to consumers, if the fees were covered by the government or the companies on our website, or this could just become a company that consumers have to buy from at a low cost since we would be non-profit
