What it does

Byte-Mail is a state of the art, decentralised digital communications platform. It allows for mail to be encrypted and sent both securely and anonymously.

Aryan and I learned an enormous amount about networking in general and working with sockets. We wrote the backend in Flask (Python 2) and hosted it on Google App Engine, which was a newer experience for the two of us, and we wrote the client-side code in Python 3. We also used Compute Instances to host nodes for the network. It was very challenging but we also had a very fun time and we gained a lot of valuable experience!

I, along with Tejas Srikanth, worked on the front-end of our messaging platform using Tkinter from Python 3. Being unfamiliar with this Python library, we gained valuable expertise during the journey of creating our GUI. We ran into a couple of bugs, but through grinding and determination, we were able to fix the majority of them and end up with a successful final product.

During our time working on Byte-Mail, I was mainly working on the backend of the entire project with Cristian which we made with python. During our time working on Byte-Mail, me and my team learned alot about python sockets. Before coming into this project my main two languages of choice were Java and C and I didnt know much about python at all. I can now officially say that my python skills are now far more advanced and this will help me to continue my journey in fully learning my third programming language.

We helped to build an e-mail platform that is theoretically impossible to hack and is, as a result, highly secure. Me and Eric Xiao both worked on the front-end aspect of it, creating the user interface for the email. We were able to effectively create the user interface, and all it needs is a little bit of polishing. We ran into challenges while learning as Tkinter and graphics, in general, was unfamiliar territory to us. However, we put forth our best effort, and we believe that we did a fairly good job.
