BYNTRA — Find the Path Between Us
An AI-powered cultural discovery and social platform that transforms shared interests into meaningful connections and experiences.
Inspiration
What if discovering a film could lead you to a new friendship? What if a shared love for jazz could inspire a cultural journey? What if the books we read, the music we listen to, and the places we dream of visiting could help us find people who genuinely understand our interests?
That question inspired me to build BYNTRA.
Today, cultural discovery is scattered across different platforms. We discover films on one application, music on another, restaurants somewhere else, and travel experiences through completely separate services. Meanwhile, traditional social platforms often focus on followers, popularity, and engagement rather than the interests that meaningfully connect people.
I wanted to create something different.
BYNTRA brings culture and connection into one place, where people can discover new interests, meet others through shared curiosity, and turn those discoveries into real experiences.
The name BYNTRA represents that journey, and its tagline, "Find the Path Between Us," reflects the idea that culture can create connections between people who might otherwise never meet.
What It Does
BYNTRA is a full-stack cultural discovery and social platform that brings together film and television, music, dining, travel, fashion, books, art, events, and other cultural interests.
Rather than treating these interests as unrelated categories, BYNTRA is designed around the connections between them.
The platform offers several interconnected experiences.
Cultural Discovery
Users can explore cultural content across multiple categories, share their discoveries, and find related community posts.
The Explore More feature identifies connections between real community posts using shared topics and cultural categories, encouraging users to discover interests beyond their usual preferences.
Explorers — Social Connections Through Culture
BYNTRA calls its users Explorers, with Explorers representing followers and Exploring representing the people a user follows.
Users can create profiles, select interests, publish cultural posts, upload images, follow others, like and save posts, comment, and communicate through private conversations.
Cultural Compatibility
BYNTRA helps people discover other Explorers with overlapping cultural interests.
Its compatibility system examines user-selected interests and topics from public posts to identify meaningful common ground.
Rather than displaying invented compatibility percentages, it provides evidence-based rankings and shows which interests people actually share.
Shared Journeys
Discovering common interests is only the beginning.
BYNTRA allows Explorers to create collaborative cultural journeys, invite another person, propose activities, and vote on shared plans.
These journeys can bring together different interests, such as cinema, music, dining, literature, and travel, into a single experience.
BYNTRA AI
BYNTRA includes an AI assistant powered by Groq when configured.
The assistant helps users explore cultural interests, understand connections between topics, and develop ideas for shared experiences.
AI-assisted workflows also support post categorization, cultural connection explanations, and journey planning.
The system is designed to distinguish genuine application data from AI-generated suggestions, rather than presenting invented recommendations or activities as verified results.
How I Built It
I built BYNTRA as a full-stack web application, combining a responsive frontend with a Python backend and real database-backed functionality.
The frontend uses React, TypeScript, and Vite, with a cinematic, mobile-first design built around deep forest green, near-black, cream, and champagne-gold tones.
The backend uses Python and FastAPI to manage authentication, user profiles, cultural posts, social relationships, messaging, compatibility calculations, and collaborative journeys.
SQLite stores application data, including user accounts, posts, conversations, and journey information.
For AI functionality, I integrated Groq-powered workflows that can generate contextual responses and assist with cultural exploration.
I also implemented backend routes for Qloo cultural discovery and recommendation workflows, intended to connect different cultural interests through Qloo's intelligence services.
For deployment, I used Vercel for the frontend and Render for the backend.
The application also includes Appwrite SDK connectivity, although its core authentication and application data currently remain managed by FastAPI and SQLite.
Challenges I Faced
One of my biggest challenges was designing a platform that combines several different cultural domains without making the experience feel disconnected or overwhelming.
I wanted BYNTRA to feel like one coherent journey rather than a collection of unrelated features.
Another challenge was building meaningful cultural compatibility. I did not want to display arbitrary compatibility percentages or fictional matches, so I developed a system that evaluates actual user interests and public content.
Deploying the full-stack application also required troubleshooting backend configuration, frontend environment variables, and cross-origin communication between Vercel and Render.
Qloo API Access Challenge
A particularly important challenge was obtaining access to the Qloo API.
Although I developed backend integration routes intended for Qloo-powered cultural entity discovery and cross-domain recommendations, I have not yet received my Qloo API key.
Because of this, I have been unable to complete live Qloo API testing or verify Qloo-powered recommendations.
Rather than presenting unverified results as genuine Qloo responses, I chose to keep the integration status transparent and focus on making BYNTRA's other features functional.
The application currently supports cultural discovery through real community content, interest-based matching, collaborative journeys, and AI assistance independently of Qloo.
Once I receive the API credentials, my priority will be to complete and validate the live Qloo integration.
Accomplishments I'm Proud Of
I'm proud that BYNTRA has grown from an idea into a deployed full-stack application with working user registration, authentication, and connected social features.
Some of my biggest accomplishments include:
- Building a multi-domain cultural discovery platform with a distinctive visual identity.
- Implementing real database-backed accounts, posts, social interactions, and conversations.
- Creating an evidence-based cultural compatibility system.
- Developing collaborative journeys with invitations, activities, and voting.
- Incorporating AI-assisted cultural exploration and planning.
- Deploying the frontend and backend as publicly accessible services.
- Designing the system to avoid fictional user data and unverified AI outputs being presented as real.
Most importantly, I created a platform that explores how technology can encourage curiosity and meaningful human connection.
What I Learned
Building BYNTRA strengthened my skills in full-stack development, API architecture, frontend design, authentication, database management, and production deployment.
I learned how to design interconnected features around a central product vision, handle real application state, and develop AI-assisted workflows with clear boundaries between verified information and generated suggestions.
I also gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of reliability, transparency, and user trust when building AI-powered products.
What's Next for BYNTRA
My immediate priority is completing and testing the live Qloo integration once I receive API access.
Beyond that, I want to expand BYNTRA with richer cross-domain recommendations, deeper cultural discovery, improved collaborative experiences, and stronger cloud-based data persistence.
I also want to explore how cultural intelligence can help people discover unexpected connections between their interests and those of others.
Ultimately, I envision BYNTRA becoming a digital home for cultural curiosity — a place where discovering something new can also mean discovering someone new.
BYNTRA isn't just about finding things you love. It's about finding the paths those things create between us.
Find the Path Between Us.
