Inspiration

When seniors live in retirement homes, they often feel lonely. This can affect their mental health tremendously. Thus, in order to help seniors who live in senior care or retirement homes feel better, and have better mental health, we would like to connect them with their family members and the outside services fast through our app, which is called ByMySide.

What it does

• The app offers real time video streaming and meeting with family members or healthcare people.
• We have a virtual assistant that answers questions that elders have.
• We can introduce elders to needed healthcare services.
• We can assist elders with finding great retirement homes.

How we built it

• We built the video streaming service using Agora UIKit to add live voice/video streaming and calling features to our app across mobile, desktop, and web platforms.
• We used LinearB to track the building progress of our team
• We deployed an OpenZiti network and connect from any laptop device to any web application
• We built our virtual assistant on Google Cloud
• We built our site using HTML, CSS, Javascript

Challenges we ran into

We had challenges to learn a lot of new technologies and try to integrate them to our app.

We were able to build our site and integrated the functions that we want to put in together

What we learned

• We learnt about different new technologies, we learnt about Agora and how powerful Agora is in enabling live voice/video streaming and calling features in our app across mobile, desktop, and web platforms.
• We learnt about tracking our development progress and the data analytics about the development through LinearB
• We learnt about OpenZiti

What's next for ByMySide

We want to include translating services in video so that our seniors and elders can talk with people in different countries.
