Inspiration

The idea behind BuzzUp was inspired by the rapid evolution of social media and the increasing desire for creators to manage their content more effectively. As more platforms emerge, content becomes scattered across various networks, making it harder for users to centralize their social media presence. We wanted to create an aggregator that allows users to engage with content from different platforms—whether it's from Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Lens, or others—all while earning rewards for their activity.

Additionally, we recognized that many users and content creators strive to boost their engagement quickly but often resort to purchasing fake followers, likes, and views. These methods offer little value, as the interaction is not genuine, and it doesn’t contribute to real growth. With BuzzUp, we wanted to provide a solution where accounts can rise in authentic engagement without relying on artificial means. Our goal was to create a seamless platform that helps content surface organically, similar to an ad in a discovery feed—where users naturally engage without realizing it’s a promoted post. By improving BuzzUp’s recommendation algorithm, we aim to offer genuine engagement opportunities for creators, ensuring that content recommendations feel authentic while still being effective in boosting visibility.

What it does

BuzzUp acts as a middleware content aggregator. Users don't create content directly on BuzzUp; instead, they share, like, retweet, or repost content from external platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and others. Every action performed on BuzzUp directly affects the original platform, meaning if you like a post in BuzzUp, it is automatically liked on the original platform as well. BuzzUp rewards users for being active with $BUZZ tokens, which boost their profile grade. Unlike traditional social networks, we don’t implement a follower/following system but replace it with a grading system based on activity and contribution.

How we built it

We built BuzzUp using a combination of react framework (webapp + mobile app) and blockchain integration. The platform seamlessly connects to various social media APIs, allowing users to interact with external content directly from BuzzUp. This interaction layer ensures that actions like liking, retweeting, or sharing content on BuzzUp also impact the original content on platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.

For the rewards system, we integrated with the TRON and BTTC blockchains to enable smooth and secure handling of $BUZZ token transactions. We utilized EIP-4337 to automate on-chain processes without overwhelming the user with complex blockchain tasks. This abstraction allows users to engage with the app effortlessly, while the backend ensures all actions and rewards are properly logged and managed on-chain.

BuzzUp's infrastructure also heavily relies on Token Bound Accounts using EIP-6551 to allow users to tie specific on-chain interactions to their profiles seamlessly. We incorporated a variety of token standards—ERC-1155 for multi-token capabilities, ERC-721 for NFTs, and ERC-20 for handling the $BUZZ and $UP tokens. This multi-token system is crucial for managing the various types of rewards and assets users can earn or interact with on the platform.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was ensuring that actions performed on BuzzUp properly reflected back onto the original platforms. Maintaining real-time synchronization between BuzzUp and social media networks without creating our own content storage was complex. We had to focus heavily on ensuring data consistency while respecting the decentralized nature of our platform. Building the $BUZZ token system in a way that rewards users fairly and remains decentralized required extensive research into tokenomics.

Another significant challenge has been user experience (UX). Since BuzzUp aggregates content from various platforms, it was crucial to create a clean, effective interface that presents mixed content in an appealing way. This required us to balance between simplicity and functionality, especially as users switch between multiple social media sources. We have ambitious ideas for the interface, but building intricate animations and visuals makes development more complex and time-consuming. We are still learning about user behavior and adjusting our UI/UX designs accordingly. Because we are a small team, we are focusing on developing the platform MVP by MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to ensure stable releases.

The UX for mobile is especially challenging, as we need to deliver an experience that is both intuitive and visually engaging. Creating the best UI/UX for mobile while keeping it consistent with web design has been a major hurdle. We have to be strategic in showing the best design elements for mobile without overwhelming the user.

Another major technical challenge was implementing EIP-4337. As TRON doesn’t natively support entry point contracts or paymasters yet, we had to explore building these from scratch to allow for smart contract wallet automation. Due to the complexity and time required for this, we might skip this feature for our first MVP, but it’s a feature we plan to revisit in future iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a functional prototype for web, ios, and android that allows users to engage with their favorite social media content through a single platform. Our grading system is a unique alternative to the traditional follower/following structure, providing more fairness and transparency to content creators and everyday users alike. We’re also proud of developing the engage-to-earn feature, which lets users earn $BUZZ tokens by simply being active on the app, driving both organic engagement and content discovery across multiple platforms.

What we learned

Through this journey, we learned a great deal about the intricacies of social media APIs, including the guidelines, privacy policies, and best practices for handling cross-platform interactions securely and efficiently. We gained an in-depth understanding of how these systems work and the challenges that come with ensuring compliance across different platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.

Originally, BuzzUp started as a simple social giveaway platform, but as we continued to build and brainstorm, the idea evolved into something much larger and more impactful. Along the way, we uncovered opportunities to make BuzzUp a more engaging, valuable app, with innovative features that can provide a better service and solving the urgent problems.

We also have hidden crazy ideas that could be highly effective for our first target market (idea v3) and expand robustly. However, we've decided to hold off on implementing them for now, as we want to focus on delivering a strong first MVP and refining the core functionalities before expanding into those more ambitious features.

Additionally, building a decentralized rewards system taught us the importance of scalability and fairness as our user base grows. We've learned that it's not just about making an app work technically, but about providing meaningful value to users through simple, intuitive, and enjoyable features.

We believe, we learn even more later, because we're experimenting some UIUX and gonna have a lot of feedbacks soon.

What's next for BuzzUp!

The next steps for BuzzUp include launching a beta version where users can start earning $BUZZ tokens and test the grading system. We also plan to fine-tune the tokenomics and engage influencers to spread awareness of the platform. Down the line, we aim to integrate more social networks and fine-tune the user experience to make content engagement even smoother. We're also excited to introduce features that allow users to incentivize their fans or followers through their BuzzUp profile by distributing engagement rewards. Stay tuned—big things are coming for BuzzUp!
