Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was that planes are complex, however, people are so fascinated by them. Especially children, however, it is really hard to teach them about all the different systems on an aircraft and make it fun. That's why we wanted to make an exciting flight simulator that would simplify their learning experience.
What it does
The flight simulator uses easy and familiar interfaces in order to fly a plane, along with extra entertainment features. It controls the rudder and flaps through a Spotify interface, and it takes Instagram pictures through a voice-controlled interface.
How we built it
We started by finding a model of a cockpit, and then we added to the model using Blender and OpenVSP. After this, we used Unity to create our simulation.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into problems with texturing our character in Unity. We also had trouble connecting Instagram and Spotify to our program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the Spotify and Instagram connections to our app. Also, we are proud of our progress throughout the project. We had a good plan, which allowed us to complete so much in our small amount of time.
What we learned
We learned how to work collectively as a team, and we grew more familiar with different software, especially Unity.
What's next for BuzzerBeaters Fun Flight Simulator
- Integrate Spotify and Instagram APIs into the cockpit -Add more educational features
- Add more visual aircraft features
- Be able to change the aircraft being flown
- Users can choose different aircraft to fly Example: The outside of the aircraft can change from a region jet to a VTOL aircraft
