We built Buzz, an AI-powered, voice-interactive spelling game designed to make spelling fun, accessible, and stress-free for young children, ESL learners, and neurodivergent users. Users can spell words by speaking or typing, receive real-time pronunciation feedback from an AI coach, and progress through adaptive levels and mini games. The app emphasizes gentle reinforcement, accessibility, and playful design, featuring custom artwork, badges, and a friendly color palette to create a warm, inviting experience. We used Figma for the first time to design the full user interface, including the icons, illustrations, and layout components from scratch.
One of our biggest challenges was learning how to use Figma effectively while designing a UI that was both engaging and accessible to diverse users. We also had to ensure that voice input and feedback were intuitive, especially for users with varying speaking styles and confidence levels. Despite these challenges, we’re proud of creating a polished prototype with custom visuals, adaptive learning logic, and a user-friendly design that reflects our mission. This project pushed us to think about accessibility, emotional design, and inclusivity in ways we hadn’t before.
