The Idea

On January 21st, we set out to build a social media app using the Clarifai API for ConUHacks 2017. The goal was to simplify posting to different platforms by composing a post only once and then sending it across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at the click of a button.

Business Value

The uniqueness of “Buzz” is that it generates automatic relevant hashtags based on the content of a picture taken with the camera or directly from the media library of your smartphone. This helps reach a wider audience while reducing the time to write a post. This app is designed for influencers and small businesses that wish to reach the next level in their social marketing by creating the next big “Buzz” online.

Development Process

The major challenge we faced developing this app was the integration of the three main social media API’s. Each has their own rules which limits what can be accomplished within third party apps. For example Instagram does not let our app pre-fill captions. Instead, the user needs to complete the post manually by pasting the hashtags copied to his clipboard. This could be fixed by getting “Buzz” whitelisted by Instagram in the future. On the other hand, the implementation of the Clarifai API was straight forward and intuitive.
