Inspiration
Our team was inspired to create this website showcasing women-owned businesses after learning that almost 50% of U.S. businesses are women-owned. However, most of these companies don’t receive enough funding making it difficult for them to succeed. We wanted to create a platform that highlights the significant contributions of women entrepreneurs and help connect consumers to these diverse products and services these businesses have to offer. By spreading awareness and supporting women-owned businesses, we hope these companies remain in business and are able to make a bigger impact on the world.
What it does
By Woman For All aims to boost support for women-owned businesses. It comprises a user interface that enables users to explore and purchase products across various categories. Users, if interested, can direct themselves to the business website where they can purchase. Overall this was an attempt to empower women through supporting them rather than billionaire corporations that are mostly led by men.
How we built it
We built the website through an online platform called replit using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we faced were making the layout and formatting of the website the way we wanted and implementing some JavaScript, in order for it to be more interactive and appealing. We also ran into difficulties hosting the website and making it live online.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of being able to make a final product within such limited time. As first-years who have never coded prior to this hackathon, it was a huge accomplishment to produce a final product that we found to be meaningful in promoting a greater cause.
What we learned
It was amazing how much we learned in such a short span of time. We learned how to implement our ideas into code and execute on a website. We also gained experience in the main programming languages we used in this project.
What's next for Buy Women For All
In the future, we want our website to be centered around specific products that are organized in various categories for users to navigate around easily. We want to make it appear more like an online shopping website where users would be able to directly buy products from the website. I believe that limiting it solely to female-owned businesses may exclude other minority-owned businesses. Therefore, we can enhance inclusivity by welcoming both minority-owned male and female businesses.
